The mising community is known for their vibrant handloom traditions, rich oral folklore, and communitarian lifestyle. The Misings celebrate life through festivals like Ali-Aye-Ligang, Dobur and Po:rag, which reflect their agrarian roots and deep reverence for the land. Their language, Mising Agom, belongs to the Tani branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family and carries a vast wealth of indigenous knowledge, songs, and ritual chants.
Community institutions such as the Murong Okum play a vital role in traditional knowledge transmission, social bonding, and cultural discipline. The Misings uphold the values of honor, unity, hospitality, and cultural pride, which are visibly reflected in their social customs, musical expressions, and graceful dances like Gumrag.
Today, while embracing education and modern aspirations, the Mising community also continues to protect its heritage, contributing significantly to the cultural mosaic of Assam and Northeast India.

Beyond its celebratory aspect, MYF emphasizes the importance of preserving endangered art
forms, promoting handloom and handicrafts, and fostering a sense of unity among diverse tribal groups.
Its inclusive nature, welcoming various tribes and communities from Northeast India, strengthens regional harmony and cultural exchange, making it a crucial event for sustaining and celebrating indigenous identities in a rapidly changing world.
The Mising Youth Festival has become the soul of the Mising youth community, aiming to provide a common platform for showcasing cultural strength while promoting national unity, communal harmony, fraternity, courage, and boldness. It inspires Mising youth to contribute meaningfully to community and nation-building, recognizing their vital role in shaping the future in today’s changing environment.
